Half mask – a practical and effective solution for respiratory protection
A filtering respirator can be either a full-face or half mask with replaceable filters for protection against particles and/or gases. If the filtering respirator is equipped with a battery-powered motor (powered air system) that blows air through a filter, a hood can also be used as the facepiece. Filtering respirators are also available as disposable filtering face masks.
We are all highly dependent on the air we breathe being clean and healthy. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case at work. The environment may be hazardous or harmful, or the job itself may involve working directly with dangerous chemicals, solvents, gases, paints, or similar substances. A 3M half mask is a simple and efficient solution to situations that require respiratory protection.
Equip yourself with the right filters, and you’re ready for the job. Sundström and PureFlo are also quality brands when it comes to respirator equipment. Your protective mask must, of course, be suited to both the type of work and the duration of the task.
In Denmark, we follow the 3-hour rule: you may only work with filtering respiratory protection for up to 3 hours a day. If the work lasts longer, a powered or supplied air solution is required.
A half mask can still be used for such tasks, as long as it remains comfortable and appropriate. Several half masks can, in fact, be used as part of a supplied-air system.
So remember: if your workload exceeds 3 hours per day, choose a respirator with a motor or an air-supplied system.
